Happy New Year!

Everybody loves celebrating New Years Eve! Poppers and hooters and fireworks are fun, festive and LOUD! They can cause havoc with our furry family members.

A couple ways you can make New Years Eve easier on your dog is to first take your dog for a walk so that they get some exercise, feel calm, and get to relieve themselves before the party begins. Take them out before dark or soon after, because not everyone waits until midnight to start celebrating.

Double check your doors, fences and gates, some dogs will bolt when frightened. If you have a closing doggie door, consider locking it up for the evening.

Make certain your dog is comfy, create a space for them which is familiar and safe with access to their crate or bed. Maybe play some music or turn up the TV so the sounds outside are drowned out. Don’t berate your dog for being frightened, having bathroom accidents, or acting up during the fireworks.

Finally, don’t kick your dog outside. If you’re home, hang out & be calm with your dog so they can get through the night with the person they trust most.

Happy New Year!!
