Dogs, Windows, Car Rides...

We all know dogs LOVE sticking their heads out of our car windows as we are driving, we love watching them do it! You can see the pure joy on their faces, the wind, the sun, the smells, the sounds … the danger!

WHY IT’S DANGEROUS FOR YOUR DOG TO RIDE WITH HIS HEAD OUT THE WINDOW!

Imagine you are driving down the freeway and you stuck your head out the window, the sheer force of the wind on your eyes alone would be drying and damaging, now imagine all the dirt, pebbles, debris and everything else that would get in them, ouch!

Our dogs have sensitive ears as well, the constant flapping can cause trauma and painful swelling.

What happens if they jump out said window into traffic, if they get stuck while you are driving. No Bueno!!

Let’s talk about the bed of a pickup truck … all of the above dangers and more! Think about how hot it is outside, the bed of a truck can reach dangerous temps on a hot day in Vegas, would you like to sit or stand on it?

SAFETY FIRST

Ultimately the best place for your dog to ride is secured inside of a crate, BUT there are car seats, leash tethers and special seatbelts. We all know the feeling of getting outside and feeling the fresh air after being all cooped up inside, so do our dogs, maybe crack the window just enough so they can smell all those wonderful smells without the risk. A warning: make sure you lock the rear windows, many dogs will quickly learn how to lower automatic windows!

Please tether or buckle your dogs in if you are not using a crate. You’ll both be safer with no distractions!
